Data Analyst with 25 years software development experience

I am a data analyst excited by working with data and using it to deliver insights and solutions. I am currently studying on the Data Analytics postgraduate career accelerator course run by LSE and FourthRev. This involves learning data analytics using Excel, SQL, Tableau, Python and R.
I used my recent career break to strengthen my Power BI skills and gain Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification.
In my previous role I was involved with Agile web API and Winforms development using C# , .net Core and SQL Server.
I worked closely with key users throughout the business to make sure that applications delivered what was needed.
I have skills in SSIS, SSRS and SQL server database administration and also have experience of requirements gathering and 3rd line support.
Outside of work I enjoy astronomy, keeping fit and reading.

Work experience

Jan 2005 - July 2024 Software Developer, Natcen Social Research

Working with customers across Natcen to develop software as part of an Agile project team using SQL Server and C# web API/Winforms. This includes a complex system for managing the pay claims of 700 freelance staff and also a large Sample Management System. Both of these systems are central to NatCen’s operations and enable complex processes to be effectively managed.

Designing and specifying system amendments and providing 3rd line support. Unit, system and integration testing. SQL Server database administration and tuning. SSIS and SSRS development. I left to take a short break and then move into Data Analytics.

July 1997 - December 2004 Software Analyst/Programmer, Logica (now CGI group)

Worked on a range of projects for different clients, including Ford Motor Company. Major technologies used were SQL Server 7/2000, Oracle 8i/9i, classic ASP, VB6,HTML, JavaScript and some COOL:Gen/IBM mainframe. There was also involvement in systems analysis, 3rd line support and testing.

Currently studying on the Data Analytics Career Accelerator course with LSE and FourthRev. Learning data analysis using Excel, SQL, Tableau, Python and R.
